Slumberjack Bonnie and Clyde Sleeping Bag Review

Slumberjack maintains a reputation for being the outdoor sleep experts for over 50 years, and to this end has manufactured and designed a vast range of different sleep products that help adventurers both novice and professional to get a good night’s rest.  Aware that there are plenty of people who do their outdoor activities as couples or families, Slumberjack designed a bag that caters to those who enjoy some close quarters companionship to help keep things warm on a long, cold night.  The Bonnie and Clyde, a dual sleeping bag system featuring two bags that can be zipped together, is well-suited for just those kinds of excursions.  Each bag is about 34 by 78 inches, which when combined form a 68 by 78 sleeping area.  An interesting feature of the Bonnie and Clyde is that each half of the system has a different temperature rating.  The Bonnie rates at 40 degrees F and the Clyde rates at 30 degrees F, which allows for unprecedented versatility for different weather conditions, or differing tolerance for cold weather.  The Bonnie and the Clyde weigh 4 lbs. 15 oz. and 5 lbs. 15 oz., respectively, and as such, are not really well-suited for backpacking and serious expedition trips, but are fine for campsites and trips where one does not have to trek too far from a vehicle.

The Bonnie and Clyde features a yarn-dyed cotton flannel liner, a polyester taffeta shell, and a synthetic fill known as Slumberloft HQ, which contributes to the bag’s weight but is cheap and provides good loft and warmth retention.  The bag also comes with a weather seal draft tube to prevent escaping heat, along with anti-snag zippers and straps to keep the zippers from unzipping.  This pair of bags also comes with a couple of decent but thin pillows, and those who require more head cushioning would do well to bring their own pillows along for the trip.  Users generally appreciate how spacious the bag is, the warmth that it provides, and the additional comfort that a flannel liner can bring when it contact with a person’s skin.  Couples have reported being able to bring a young child along with them, making this two-person bag possibly a three-person bag, particularly if one or all of the occupants are relatively small in stature.

The price point of the Bonnie and Clyde is definitely a pleaser, at US$80 or thereabouts, which is much more affordable than many higher-end down fill or synthetic bags that can only accommodate one person.  This is especially since you effectively get two bags at the price of one.  Many consumers have expressed satisfaction with their purchase of a Bonnie and Clyde as a means of enjoying the experience of being able to hug, snuggle and more, either outdoors or in the house in front of a fireplace.  More exacting buyers, however, have criticized the Bonnie and Clyde for having fabric and insulation that was flat and generally of inferior quality, as well as stitching that suggested a shoddy construction.  It may not be the best double-bag on the market, but it is one that should accommodate the needs of most couples and families.
