Golite Adrenaline 0 Sleeping Bag Review
Outdoor equipment manufacturer GoLite places emphasis
on designing gear that is simple, beautiful and high in performance.
Its award-winning sleeping bag, the Adrenaline 0, is the product
embodiment of that design philosophy.
Sleek, slim and minimalist, the Adrenaline 0 is an 800-fill goose
down mummy bag rated for temperature down to 0 degrees F.
The Adrenaline 0 relies on two important advantages as its selling
points: the lightweight
structure that will only set you back about 2 lbs. 12 oz., and its emphasis
on providing reinforcement and comfort only where it matters, saving on
materials and cost. It must be
noted that GoLite is conscientious about the impact of its products on the
environment, and it has streamlined the Adrenaline 0 to avoid any
unnecessary frills.
The Adrenaline 0 is actually somewhat trimmer than the
average mummy bag, which minimizes the space needed to be warmed by one’s
body heat. In spite of this,
users of normal build report that the bag is actually roomy enough to wear
extra clothing, in case one needs the additional layer to keep warm.
The bag also comes with a cinched skullcap-type hood that adjusts to
the user’s head, so that it follows when the person shifts his head about
while asleep. Unlike other mummy
bags that have their zippers on the sides, the Adrenaline 0’s zipper is
located on top, and is reinforced by a pair of draft tubes to keep out the
cold. Users praise the ease with
which one can enter and exit the Adrenaline 0, although there have been some
concerns raised about snagging that occurs with the zipper’s interaction
with the draft tubes. This
sleeping bag also follows the user as he tosses and turns in the night, so
no warmth is lost in the adjustment.
Only the head and foot region are covered with tough waterproof but
breathable material, as these are crucial areas of the body that may be
exposed to dampness or condensation, such as by contact with the walls of a
tent or the end of a bivy. This
reduces the weight of the bag significantly, and any dampness that finds its
way elsewhere on the bag is either negligible or can be wiped off easily.
Users who have brought the bag to repeated excursions
in low temperatures find that the Adrenaline 0’s temperature rating is
accurate, and keeps them warm at below freezing conditions.
Also, the down does not appear to shift substantially, with the even
distribution of the loft being maintained even after packing and unpacking
the bag several times.
The drawbacks of the Adrenaline 0 design are more
subjective, in that the slim body of the bag may be uncomfortable for
persons with exceptionally broad shoulders, or those of generally larger
build. Also, some users find the
pre-cinched hood constricting and would rather have made their own
adjustments to the hood to accommodate their comfort.
Overall, however, the Adrenaline 0 comes highly recommended for the
outdoor adventure who desires an efficient, no-frills product that performs
at or even exceeds expectations.
