It is easy to assume that one would have to sacrifice
quality when choosing a mid ranged, reasonably priced bag.
More expensive bags come with all the
bells and whistles, and maybe even a tuning fork.
If you cut the price by so much, the
sleeping bag is just a piece of cloth with barely any tech research, right?
Not necessarily.
Sleeping bags have come a long way,
and even cheaper bags have excellent innovations and features backing them
up. The
Silver
City bag itself boasts
Eureka!’s Rteq
premium insulation technology. Four
unique micro-fibres are patterned in such a way that heat is efficiently
trapped inside the bag. This
technology also makes the Silver
City model very light weight and
easy to pack. At only two pounds, the
Silver
City won’t make your back ache when
you lug it about. It also comes
with a cool compression bag with a multitude of straps, making it easy to
strap on your pack and save on space.
There are other factors that make the
Silver City
a pretty warm bag. Its single layer
quilt construction, draft tube, and differential cut help to keep the cold
from getting in. It is also similar
to other Eureka! sleeping bags
since it also has an adjustable contoured hood, also helpful in keeping you
nice and toasty. All this makes it
work well around its rating, which is 30 degrees F.
Warmth is not the only concern when sleeping, however
-- comfort is important as well. The
Silver
City doesn’t shirk this duty, and
performs admirably in this department. A
polyester taffeta liner makes the bag nice and soft, while at the same time
its ergonomic trapezoidal foot box allows the feet to move better while
staying warm. Like other
Eureka! bags, this one also comes with an inner stash
pocket, making it easier to sleep with a few treasured things near you.
This truly is convenience at its finest.
Toughness is not an issue here too, since this sleeping
bag has a polyester diamond ripstop shell, giving it that durable x-factor.
The self repair zippers also work
very well. To be honest, there are
only a few problems with the bag. The
lining might take some getting used to as it is very smooth, but this is
nothing multiple uses won’t fix. Also,
some people got cold at 40 to 30 degrees. Most
users felt warm at these temperatures, but it was worth mentioning to stay
on the safe side. Lastly, larger adventurers may have trouble fitting into
this relatively snug bag.
Overall, the Silver
City is a fantastic bargain.
At US$80, its one of the best in its price range.
